About Belfast
Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland. It has a population of approx 330,ooo and is the 2nd largest City on the island of Ireland.
When it became a City in 1888 it was a major centre for the Irish linen, tobacco-processing, rope-making and shipbuilding industries. At that time, Harland & Wolff was the world's biggest and most productive shipyard that also built the famous Titanic.
